The Dragon Kingdom, Last Shangrila, Land of Gross National Happiness, Bhutan, the tiny Buddhist Kingdom in the Southeast Asia is popular for many things. It’s well preserved nature, the birth place of a philosophy known as the Gross National Happiness, scenic mountains, fortresses or Dzongs and many more.The 38,394 square kilometers sized country opened to the outside world only in the 1960s and ensured developed came fast while keeping a perfect balance between modernization and preserving its centuries’ old culture. Thimphu, the capital city is the only capital city in the world without traffic lights,how the traffic flows smoothly is another attraction for people around the world.


 


With 20 Districts, the southern foothill altitude ranges from 100 meters above sea level and rises to 7200 meters in the northern Passes. The official language of Bhutan is Dzongkha and most urban wellers speak English. There are other dialects spoken by the Bhutanese like Lhotshampkha, Sarchop,Khengkha, Bumthangkha, etc


National Flag


The National flag is divided diagonally with the upper triangle yellow representing the Kingdom of Bhutan's yellow Kabney, the lower triangle orange represents the Buddhist tradition. Along the dividing line is a large dragon facing away from the hoist side. The dragon is holding a norbu, or jewel, in each of its claws represent Bhutan's wealth and security.


National Emblem


The national emblem of Bhutan is enclosed in a circle with two dragons framing a double diamond -thunderbolt (dorji). A lotus is placed above surmounted by a jewel. The dorji symbolizes harmony between secular and religious power while the jewel represents sovereign power


National Animal


The thick necked and short legged Takin (Burdorcas taxicolor) is the national animal of Bhutan. It is associated with religious history and mythology. Takin is a rare animal, and its conservation status is "vulnerable


National Bird


The national bird of Bhutan is the raven. It is the most prominent component of the royal crown. The raven represents the deity Gonpo Jarodongchen, the raven-headed Mahakala, one of the country's chief guardian deities.


National Flower


The national flower of Bhutan is the Himalayan blue poppy (Meconopsis gakyidiana). It grows to a height of 1 meter on the rocky mountain terrain, above the tree line at altitudes of 3500m to 4500m.Blue Poppy is the national flower because it's said that blue blood runs through it and it's a rare flower.


National Sport


Archery is Bhutan's national game. It is a popular sport especially among the male population. Archery promotes social unity, harmony and the preservation of tradition. It was made the NationalSport in 1971, the game celebrates the traditional Bhutanese life.


Currency: The Bhutanese currency Ngultrum is fixed at the rate of Indian Rupee.National Day:  17 December, the day first king of Bhutan was crowned.


Religion: Buddhism and next comes Hinduism in terms of popularity. There is a minority section that


practices Christianity.
